71 x 67 x 9”

Nine Patch Tulle Quilt plays with the quilt, subverting its function but relying on its logic. It is a grid, made from grids, material in its texture, color and visible processes. The grid here is functional, it is the method of quilting. To quilt is to join three layers of cloth together through stitching. Taking the Nine Patch, a traditional quilt piecing method, as a point of departure, and enlarging it into the whole piece. Layers of black tulle are stitched together into approximately 24 x 24 inch pieces, quilted in 3 x 3 inch grids. These nine quilted pieces were then hand-stitched together to complete the quilt.
